Mothers who come to Birth Haven are in a state of crisis. They are in need of appropriate housing and support services if they wish to carry their pregnancy to term. Many participants enter the program with intentions of raising their baby, while others seek adoption as an alternative. Regardless of their decision, Birth Haven supports each resident according to her own life circumstances, goals, and visions for the future.
Birth Haven is unique because it offers an array of services that address the specific needs of each resident. In addition to providing immediate needs, such as shelter and food, Birth Haven also helps connect residents with these essential fostering services:
- Medical Care
• Mental Health Care
• Individual and Group Therapy
• Case Management
• Career Development
• Life Skills Workshops
Through an intensive collaboration with local community partners and volunteers, the program prepares each resident for a better life after residency. Birth Haven assists each young woman with making the choices that are the best for them and their baby. Where personal support systems are lacking, Birth Haven fills in that need by assisting the resident in obtaining a “doula.” This trained and experienced professional provides continuous physical, emotional, and informational support to the mother before, during, and after birth. If adoption is to be pursued, the organization will help the resident locate and work with an appropriate agency.
